Freddy Mamani Silvestre
Freddy Mamani Silvestre is a Bolivian born self taught architect designing buildings for the people of El Alto above La Paz. He draws on the motifs and colours of his native Tiwanaku art.
Known as “Party Halls' ' these buildings are designed to produce income, the lower floors are retail units, first and second floors with double height ceilings are party venues and the owner has living accommodation on the upper floors. Silvestre’s practice is said to be of a new aesthetic, breaking with colonialism and western architecture.
I love the vitality that these amazing buildings breathe, their colours and simple structures are very refreshing, unlike any other buildings that I have come across. His use of angles and shapes are innovative and reflect the local population and their love of fiestas.
